A wet first day saw some riders remain in the pits all day while others made the most of a few dry laps with surprising results. With Scott Redding the only rider to complete over 30 laps, many felt it was a wasted day.
Thursday, the second day of the three-day test, saw rain early in the morning but otherwise pristine conditions. Every MotoGP™ rider completed at least 50 laps and many were able to make significant progress through their list of things to test. Maverick Viñales led the way by 0.161s, proving once again that 2016 will no doubt be full of surprises.
Riders will be hoping for a dry day on Friday, the final day of the test, but with Phillip Island’s reputation for having four seasons in a day riders will have to make the most of any dry track time they can. Jorge Lorenzo continues to search for front-end stability while Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi aim to improve their comfort on the bike, the new electronics making riding a more physical affair. Full race simulations are yet to be done for most riders and with so many technical changes in 2016, knowing what to expect at the end of race may be a vital advantage in early rounds.
Ducati continue to work on improving their factory Desmosedici, bringing a new seamless gearbox to make the shift from fifth to sixth seamless, as well as help their statellite teams to be as competitive as possible. With both Redding and Hector Barbera inside the top ten already, the latter is certainly true. Suzuki will also be aiming to make more mechanical enhancements on the final day, the Japanese factory feeling they have yet to use their new engine to its maximum potential.
